    Basis for Selection

    Open admission policy as described above for all students
    All applicants must meet certain requirements specified by public law in order to be considered for admission to West Point. Applicants will be evaluated on academic performance, the ability to demonstrate leadership potential, and physical aptitude. To apply for admission to West Point all applicants must secure a nomination from an approved source (Congress, the President, Vice President, or Department of the Army), be at least 17 but not yet 23 years of age by July 1 of year of entry, unmarried U.S. citizen (foreign national with approval), have no parental obligations or responsibilities, be in good physical and mental health and pass the Qualifying Medical Exam and the Candidate Fitness Assessment. Applicants should start their candidate file by submitting the Candidate Questionnaire in spring of their junior year. Applicants are advised to seek nominations from as many sources as possible and to contact the Admissions office between July 1 and January 15, of senior year.
