    Kolly is an AI college essay tool. You paste a draft and Kolly tells you whether it will land. If it won't, it tells you why, paragraph by paragraph, until it does.

    Kolly is operated by Dotter, Inc. ("Dotter," "we," "us"). These Terms cover your use of kolly.ai and any related apps or APIs (the "Service"). The Privacy section below covers what we collect and why.

    1. Using Kolly

    You need to be at least 13 to use Kolly. If you are under 18, read these Terms with a parent or guardian.

    Don't use Kolly to do anything illegal, abuse other users, scrape our reference essays in bulk, or break our systems. We can suspend or close your account if you do.

    2. Your account

    Keep your login safe. You are responsible for everything that happens under your account. If you think someone else got access, email founders@kolly.ai and we'll lock it.

    3. Subscriptions and billing

    Some of Kolly is free. Some is paid. Paid plans (Pro and Premium) renew automatically on the cycle you picked (monthly or every six months) until you cancel. Cancel from Settings. Cancelling stops the next renewal; access continues through the end of the current period.

    Refunds: if Kolly doesn't work as described in the first 7 days of a fresh paid period, email founders@kolly.ai and we'll refund you. After 7 days, paid time is non-refundable. We may change prices for new periods. If we do, you'll see the new price before your next renewal and can cancel.

    4. What you write stays yours

    Your essays are yours. We don't claim ownership of anything you paste into Kolly. We need a limited license to read, store, score, and display your work back to you so the product can run. When you delete an essay, we delete it from active storage. Backups may persist for up to 30 days before they roll off.

    We will not sell your essays or use them to train third-party models. Aggregated, de-identified usage data (counts, percentile distributions, error rates) may be used to improve Kolly itself.

    5. What we provide

    Scores are honest reads, not guarantees. A high Kolly percentile does not guarantee admission. A low percentile does not guarantee rejection. The Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We make no warranty that the score is correct, that the Service will be uninterrupted, or that any specific outcome will follow.

    Don't paste anything you wouldn't be willing to show a teacher. Don't paste medical, legal, or financial information you need to keep private. Kolly is built for college essays, not for regulated data.

    6. Acceptable use

    You agree not to:

    • Submit content that isn't yours, or that you don't have permission to submit.
    • Try to extract our reference essays, prompts, or model outputs in bulk.
    • Use Kolly to generate content for someone else's application without their knowledge.
    • Send malware, attempt to break Kolly's auth, scrape at a rate that affects other users, or otherwise abuse the Service.

    7. Termination

    You can close your account at any time from Settings. We can close an account that violates these Terms. If we close your account for cause, paid time is not refunded.

    8. Liability

    To the maximum extent allowed by law, Dotter is not liable for indirect damages, lost admissions, lost scholarship, or lost opportunity arising from your use of Kolly. Our total liability for any claim related to the Service is capped at what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.

    9. Changes to these Terms

    We may update these Terms. If we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page and, for material changes, send a notice to your account email. Continued use after a change means you accept it.

    10. Governing law

    These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Disputes go to the state or federal courts located in Loudoun County, Virginia.

    Privacy Policy

    We try to collect as little as possible and tell you what we do.

    What we collect

    • Account data. Your email and the OAuth identifier from your sign-in provider (typically Google). Name and profile picture if your provider sends them.
    • Essay data. The essays, activities, honors, letters, and notes you create or upload, plus the scores and reviews Kolly produces for them.
    • Usage data. Pages visited, features used, error logs, and rough device info (browser, operating system, IP at the time of request). We use this to debug and improve the product.
    • Billing data. If you subscribe, Stripe handles your card. We get back the subscription status, invoice metadata, and the last four digits of the card. We do not see or store your full card number.

    What we don't collect

    • We don't sell your data.
    • We don't use your essays to train third-party models.
    • We don't run third-party advertising trackers in the authenticated app.
    • We don't ask for medical, legal, or financial information, and we'd rather you not paste it in.

    Who we share data with

    To run Kolly we use a small set of vendors. Each one only sees the data it needs to do its job:

    • Supabase stores your account, essays, and scores. Hosted in the US.
    • Anthropic and the Vercel AI Gateway run the language models that produce scores and feedback. Your essay text is sent at scoring time. Neither retains your essays for model training.
    • Stripe processes payments.
    • Vercel hosts the app and serves the website.
    • Resend (or a similar transactional provider) sends account emails.
    • Google Analytics collects aggregate traffic stats on public pages. We do not run it on authenticated app pages.

    We may also disclose data if a court orders us to, or if it is necessary to protect a person from harm.

    Cookies

    We use a small number of cookies to keep you logged in and remember your settings. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.

    Your choices

    • See your data. Most of it is visible in the dashboard.
    • Delete your data. Delete an essay from its document menu; it is removed from active storage right away. Email founders@kolly.ai to request full account deletion.
    • Cancel. Cancel your subscription from Settings.
    • Export. Email us if you want a copy of everything Kolly has on you.

    Data retention

    Active data lives until you delete it or until your account is closed. Backups age out within 30 days of deletion. Billing records are kept for as long as we are legally required to keep them.

    Children

    Kolly is built for high-school students applying to college. We don't direct the Service at children under 13 and don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you think a minor under 13 has signed up, email us and we'll delete the account.

    International users

    Kolly is hosted in the United States. If you use it from outside the US, you are sending your data to the US.

    Changes to this Privacy Policy

    We'll update the date at the top when this changes. Material changes will get an email to your account.
